Father Jeremy Bergstrom began his ministry as rector of St. Peter’s in January 2019. Prior to his call to St. Peter’s he was Canon for Vocations in the Episcopal Diocese of Dallas and Priest in Charge of St. Christopher’s, Dallas. He began his ordained ministry in the Episcopal Church as an assistant at St. John’s Church in beautiful Savannah, Georgia, where he was ordained priest.
Fr. Jeremy seeks to build his own life and this church community on the rock of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. A sentence of Scripture from his first Sunday at St. Peter’s sums up his approach: “To me, though I am the very least of all the saints, this grace was given, to preach to the nations the unsearchable riches of Christ” (Eph 3:8). He delights in all aspects of parish ministry, including preaching, worship, teaching, pastoral care, and building community around the Good News of Jesus. He also enjoys teaching at the seminary level on occasion and is passionate about raising up new and faithful leaders for the church, both lay and ordained.
A graduate of Purdue University, Fr. Jeremy soon repented of his ambition to have a career in politics and instead pursued a lifetime in ministry. He received his MDiv from Southeastern Seminary, an MTh from St. Vladimir’s Seminary, a PhD from the University of Durham in England, and a Certificate in Anglican Studies from Nashotah House. He is a confident Evangelical Protestant, in that he views the Anglican tradition as nothing more than a commitment to know Christ as he is revealed in the Scriptures and as proclaimed through the life and witness of the ancient church. “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast” (Eph 2:8-9).
He married his wife Jackie in 2001, and they are the proud parents of three sons. When he manages to find some spare time he enjoys writing, good food, and attempting to play assorted sports. He also aspires to collect power tools so he can make things out of wood.
