Building blocks

Mission Statement
Our mission is to demonstrate and teach this, The Great Commandment, by providing God’s children a safe and loving Christian environment in which to learn, grow, and thrive.

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children…” Deuteronomy 6:5-7

Philosophy
St. Peter’s Preschool and Kindergarten strives to ease a child’s transition from a family-oriented world to a larger social world.  We do this by using a modified child-oriented High/Scope curriculum. Our staff of degreed teachers provides developmentally appropriate activities that give children the opportunity to gain experience in social living.

Objectives
• To provide a Christ-centered environment and a child-centered curriculum for our children.
• To provide children with a hands-on approach to learning through a variety of activities to gain independence, build self-confidence, and foster creativity.
• To provide a balance between the child’s spiritual, social, emotional, intellectual, and physical needs.
• To provide each child with an opportunity to mature at his or her own pace and deepen spiritual connections and Godly values.
• To teach the basic foundations of our Christian Faith.
• To teach each child that they are special just as God made them, and to help them be the best they can be.

Preschool Curriculum
All of our preschool classes develop skills through various units of study that serve as excellent building blocks for future academic success. All classrooms are enhanced with housekeeping, construction and dress-up areas, as well as computers, puzzles, and a variety of learning activities.

Two Year Old
The two year old program is divided into two sections: Tiny Two’s and Two1/2’s. The primary focus is to balance cultivating a loving relationship between the child and the teachers and positive beginning social skills with their peers. Language development and cooperative play are fostered through a variety of activities. All twos must be toilet trained.

Three Year Olds
This class level forms the foundation of the “active-learning curriculum.” Language, motor, cognitive, spiritual, and social development are integrated into a classroom organized by learning centers. Primary goals include positive socialization with peers, exploration of new activities, and transitioning between activities.

Four Year Olds
At this stage, more emphasis is placed on the learning of new skills and concepts through exciting, fun and developmentally appropriate activities. Minds on the Move introduces Science, Movement, Math, and Spanish. The program takes our curriculum a step further, promoting the skills necessary to prepare the child for Kindergarten.

Kindergarten at St. Peter’s
In Kindergarten, the children have the opportunity to achieve success in the basic skill areas while experiencing their world in very real ways. Use of the “Superkids” reading series, “Box-it and Bag-it” Math Program, and CSI Science constitutes the foundation for individualized academic advancement. Computers, learning centers, and a low student/teacher ratio enhance the program. St. Peter’s Kindergarten meets the state and county requirements as a precursor to first grade in a Christian environment.

School Staff
  SCHOOL DIRECTOR
Jeri Graumlich
jeri@stpeterslakemary.org

Jeri Graumlich began her time with us as a school parent and volunteer with her two children attending classes here.  She has home-schooled her daughters, served as Children's Ministry coordinator at her church, and taught in church settings for over 20 years.  Prior to becoming a mom, Jeri served as Director of Residential Care at Sheridan House Family Ministries in south Florida after finishing graduate studies at the University of Texas and Seminary.

  OFFICE ASSISTANT
Sheryl Broomell

sheryl@stpeterslakemary.org
Sheryl Broomell is the gentle, reassuring voice at the other end of the phone and the outstretched hand guiding new families through their first school tour. She has bandaged boo-boos, unjammed copiers, and calculated tuition deposits with skill and care. Sheryl also began her time with us as a school parent and volunteer with two of her four children attending class with us from 2s through kindergarten.

  2's and 3'sTEACHER
Lisa Babitt

Mrs. Babitt has specialized in the older twos for the past ten years. She actually requests this age group ON PURPOSE. What a saint! She is “eager to develop and prepare pre-school children for a happy and safe pre-school environment, enriched with stories, songs and many art experiences.” Sounds like fun!

  2's TEACHER
Linda Burns
Mrs. Burns began teaching 2s and 3s with us in 1993. Previously she taught pre-K, kindergarten, and children with disabilities and holds a degree in Art Education as well. Linda tried to “go on sabbatical” one year but returned to us before the year was out!

  4's TEACHER
Christi Blyseth
Mrs. Blyseth has taught threes' and fours' here at St. Peter's in addition to being a teacher of young children in a variety of settings. Christi is, “Committed to nurturing the inborn childhood desire to learn through play.”  Her own child has also attended the school.  She is a perfect match for St. Peter’s!

  3's TEACHER
Dana Crutchfield
Mrs. “Crunchfield”, as Chase Holt calls her, has served with us seven years both as a twos’, threes’ and fours' teacher. Her daughter attended in prior years and we have son Noah with us this year. “In addition to being a teacher here, I also am blessed to be married . . . proud mother of three . . . a born-again Christian.”

  3's TEACHER
Katie Maun
Mrs. Maun offers the warmest of welcomes to her new students this year. She has several years of experience with threes and has volunteered with Seminole County Public Schools. Both sons Cameron and Carson have attended here and Mrs. Maun is well acquainted with the St. Peter’s “way”. Her background with Scholastic Books should serve her students quite well - she knows Clifford personally!

  2's and 3's TEACHER
Jackie Pepe
Mrs. Pepe was born and raised in upstate New York where she graduated from the university in Buffalo and completed post graduate study at Adelphi University.  Jackie made her way down to Florida via Manhattan, New Jersey, and Virginia.  She enjoys traveling, going to the beach, working out, taking long walks and reading.  She has two teenage daughters that keep her very busy!  Jackie is an avid animal lover, as well as a lover of children.  Her youngest daughter attended St. Peter's thirteen years ago.  "I had a fondness for it then & even more so now!"

  4's TEACHER
Piper Ross
Mrs. Ross is the happily married wife of Tim and mother of four (11, 8, 6, 3).  Piper has a teaching degree in Elementary Education from UCF and has been teaching in various capacities for over 13 years - Kindergarten, first grade, 3 and 4 year olds, as well as homeschooling her own children for the past four years.  "I enjoy every moment of teaching because I feel that God has chosen this path for me."  Piper taught at St. Peter's for several years and then took some time off when her 3rd and 4th child were born.  "I am glad to be back this year.  God is always a constant in my life and He is my rock.  I thank Him each day for every opportunity that He places before me!"

  4's TEACHER
Annette Stento
Mrs. Stento is a Florida transplant from New Jersey and Pennsylvania and has no intention of returning! She has taught our 3s and 4s for the past five years but has umpteen years of experience leading class with “little people”.  Annette is our own “Mad Scientist” as she leads our students in scientific discovery.

  KINDERGARTEN TEACHER
Joanne Dwyer
“Mrs. Dwyer” and “Kindergarten” have been synonymous since she began teaching with us 21 years ago coming to us with a background in sociology, early childhood and child development. Both of her now-adult children attended our program as mom began to co-teach, then lead the academic preparation of our oldest students. “I look forward to another wonderful year and many more here at St. Peter’s.”

  TEACHING ASSISTANT
Clara Boyden
Mrs. Boyden has been an energetic addition to our staff, bursting with ideas and resources. She began her time at St. Peter’s four years ago as a mother of Timmy, a four year old student, served as room parent and as classroom volunteer. Clara has assisted and substituted in many of our classrooms, and also teaches Spanish here at St. Peter's.  We quickly learned that we can’t do it around here without her!

  TEACHING ASSISTANT
Joan Delesky
Miss Joan began her past 10 years with us a parent of two preschoolers then moved into a position as both a teaching assistant and running our famous “Lunch Bunch” program. She taught pre-K in New York and currently volunteers with both Boy and Girl Scouts of America. “I enjoy being able to help provide a loving and Christian introduction to young children and being a part of helping and watching students grow and learn!"

  TEACHING ASSISTANT
Marlene Gilmore
Miss Marlene is a mother of four, all of whom have graduated from our kindergarten and continue to distinguish themselves in their own schools. Mrs. Gilmore has been invaluable on our staff since 1997 both as a teaching assistant to our 3s and 4s and as a co-ordinator and instructor for our “Lunch Bunch Buddies.”

  TEACHING ASSISTANT
Glynna Hood
Miss Glynna just completed six years at St. Peter’s, all with our youngest students. She also was a preschool parent (that means volunteer) for 2 years with daughter Ariel, now in middle school. In her own church, Mrs. Hood has served as three-year-old Sunday School director and threes’ Choir Director for the past 16 years.

  TEACHING ASSISTANT
Maureen Sasso
While usually the kindergarten teaching assistant, Mrs. Sasso has assisted our fours’ classes as well and her versatility makes her a wonderful addition in any class. “I have been in the daycare and preschool environment for 20 years, and a staff member at St. Peter’s for 10 years. I enjoy St. Peter’s for the great staff and very relaxed school atmosphere.”

  ART TEACHER
Terry Sisaleumsak
Miss Terry began instructing our Kindergartners in art technique 11 years ago when her own sons Ryan and Matt attended. She began as an elementary school art teacher at St. Margaret Mary’s, an adjunct art instructor at Seminole Community College, and was Seminole Co.’s Dividend of the Year in 2003 for her work at Idyllwilde Elementary.
“I love the children. They are so enthusiastic. I love seeing their growth, support and love for each other. They are such a joy; pure love!”

  MUSIC TEACHER
Lorafay Woodall
Mrs. Woodall usually teaches individual students piano lessons in the quiet and comfort of her own home. For the past several years, however, she has also conducted choral singing and music classes for all of our fours and kindergartners at St. Peter’s. Nothing in her music background has quite prepared her for this challenge! Her efforts are visible (and audible!) at our Christmas and Spring Programs.
