Backpack Weekend Food Assistance Program

Did you know that America’s cats and dogs get better nutrition than many needy kids? The Backpack Weekend Food Assistance Program for Seminole County’s needy children requires regular donations of the following:
  • Small jars of peanut butter
  • Small easy-to-open cans of tuna, chicken, baked beans
  • Boxes of protein bars with fruit etc.
  • Single serving boxes of kid-friendly cereal
  • Graham crackers (preferably in single serving packets)
  • Shelf-stable milk and/or cheese
  • Packets of cocoa mix that include dried milk (i.e. Swiss Miss)
  • Jello fruit, pudding, or dessert cups
  • Money for fresh fruit, baggies, & other items
St. Peter’s is currently feeding ten needy children at Pinecrest Elementary in Sanford, and will soon be filling the nutritional needs of 48 or more needy children on weekends and holidays. At present we have plenty of canned vegetables, so we don’t need any more until further notice.
Also needed: new or used child-sized sweaters and sweatshirts, jeans, shoes. Many of these children do not have adequate clothing for Florida’s winter. These items do not need to be new, but do need to be clean and in good condition.
If each family brings in one of these items per week, that will be a great help. Thank you!
